Origin:

Deep inside a dense, inaccessible jungle is a gigantic monkey unparalleled anywhere else. Its worshippers refer to it as The Great Monkey yet utter its name only in thought and silence. They believe that such a primate is no ordinary beast-but an elohim.

A long time ago, one lost traveler entered into the field of that monkey. The man was too weak and starved, having almost reached his death stage. Then the monkey appeared before him and watched the stranger. He claimed to have heard the voice of the monkey in his mind, asking him to serve and protect the jungle. Upon returning to his village, the man convinced others to follow this particular monkey and do as the creature willed.

Now, the people who come to worship The Great Monkey live to serve it, protect its jungle, and spread its message. They believe that it is the one real ruler of the world, and such loyalty will guarantee them a better life thereafter.

Beliefs:

1. The Monkey is a God: The Great Monkey created the world and controls its balance.

2. Loyalty Above All: The followers must give everything to The Great Monkey: food, shelter, and even life if needed.

3. No Names: To say the name of the monkey out loud is taboo. It's too holy for human lips.

4. The Jungle is Sacred: The jungle is the kingdom of the monkey. Harming it constitutes the greatest sin.

5. The Touched are the Leaders: Only such people who have seen it with their own eyes could become leaders of the cult, and they are called The Touched. They are said to carry Its wisdom and will.

Rituals:

The Offering:

Followers leave food and treasures in special places in the jungle to honor The Great Monkey. These offerings are done to show their loyalty to him and remind them to share whatever they have.

The Silent Watch:

The followers then convene in the jungle at night, in a circle and in silence. They just wait and listen for the sound of leaves rustling, or to see if it is watching them with his golden eyes. If they see and/or hear it, they say they have been blessed.

The Trial:

To prove their devotion, followers take on a dangerous challenge, like surviving alone in the jungle for three days. Success shows they’re worthy of serving The Great Monkey.

Life in the Cult:

The followers reside in small villages on the perimeter of the jungle. They till the land, hunt, and live modestly, giving the best of what they have to the monkey. They believe The Great Monkey keeps them safe and healthy as long as they stay loyal.

If someone breaks the rules, they are cast out into the jungle alone. The others say the monkey will decide their fate.

The Cult's Dedication:

They would do anything to The Great Monkey: protection of its jungle, fight against anybody who tries to harm it, and always observe the messages they believe it sends. For them, the Great Monkey is not only a god but also leadership, protection, and even purpose.
